Within the next ten years, the youth population in Sub-Saharan Africa would go through the roof. While this may provide a world of opportunity for providers of goods and services, there could be other associated repercussions which would include high unemployment rates.

In lieu of this, young people within the sub-region are being encouraged to upskill in the area of entrepreneurship and digital skills. Through this, young people can create sustainable wealth.

A Lecturer at the Entrepreneurship Centre of Ashesi University, Dr. Gordon Adomdza shared these sentiments when he spoke to participants at a 2-day Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Hubs Networks (GHN) at Bolgatanga; the Upper East Regional Capital.

The Ghana Hubs Networks is a nationwide network of hubs with a primary focus on training and retraining young people in the area of entrepreneurship and digital skills. It is expected that once young people are trained, they will foster socioeconomic growth at the various local ecosystems and the country as a whole.

The AGM was organized by the Ghana Hubs Networks and hosted by DANSYN ISO; a member of the Network in the Upper East Region. It brought together more than 50 participants made up of researchers, digital technologists, entrepreneurs, innovators et al to have conversations around broadening the scope and impact of the Network.

The AGM was hinged on “Collaboration for a Stronger Network”.

Dr. Adomdza said, “in Ghana, for instance, the economy keeps dwindling and provides no more enabling avenues for employment. It is against this backdrop that it is important to train the youth in entrepreneurial skills and digital technology so the youth can take their destiny into their own hands”.

The Director of Policy and Research of the Ghana Hubs Network, Yaw Adu Gyamfi restated the Network’s position as a partner to the government in furthering the agenda of developing highly skilled youth to bridge the mismatch and gaps in jobs available and the people who need them.

Josiah Eyison, Chairman of the GHN, disclosed that a total of 52 hubs are registered with the Network. Mr. Eyison encouraged young people to be innovative stressing that for people with brilliant ideas, it is becoming increasingly easy to find funds to support the realisation of their dreams. He acknowledged the collaboration between the government and the GHN.

The Chief Executive Officer of Dansyn ISO, Daniel Yennube Nang commended the GHN for choosing to host the AGM in the Upper East Region. He said the move will foster collaboration and inspire the youth to upscale their quest for digital, innovation, and entrepreneurship skills as part of solutions to addressing the many problems bedevilling the country.
