The Member of Parliament for Wa West constituency in the Upper West Region, Peter Toobu has launched a development-oriented project to fix the development gaps in the constituency.

The idea while addressing the direct developmental needs of the people would also focus on grooming the next generation of leaders, critical thinkers and problem solvers.

The initiative dubbed “the Mini-Ghana project” aims at nurturing young constituents, placing them in vital positions to aid in the development of the constituency.

These selected young individuals are to work in sync with the MP’s vision for the area and bring to fruition the ideas of the development as suggested by the MP.

According to the legislator, the initiative will help in proper accountability and also groom his constituents for bigger portfolios in the future.

He spoke on the Day Break Upper East show on Al Radio.

“What I did as an MP, when I started, was to take Wa West as a mini Ghana and I as the President. I need people to be working for me while I am away in Parliament thinking about how to have oversight over the bigger government. I created about 15 portfolios in water, energy, sanitation, recreation et al. I have assigned people to use their creativity to see what they can do to help ourselves,” he said.

Mr. Toobu stressed that development “is not all about the MP.”

“It is also a leadership tool. If I teach you in the class, it is not enough. I want to put you on the field and challenge you. What I am doing gradually, is train the youth for leadership tomorrow,” the MP said.

Mr Toobu, citing the transformation of Singapore, mentioned that it is essential that young people within the various constituencies along with their leaders must seek development and ensure self-sufficiency.
