The Upper East Regional Chairman of the Football Association, Salifu Zida has expressed excitement over the quick pace of the processes leading up to the construction of the FIFA 1.0 turf in Winkogo; a community in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, have been.
According to Mr. Zida, water sources and other important documents including the soil survey have been completed. This means the main construction will soon take place.
He said the topography survey and geotechnical field investigation studies and reports were done.
“So, these two surveys have been successfully conducted at the site and the report has since been sent to FIFA. It was after the successful submission of the two geological reports which led FIFA to send its expert to Bolgatanga to continue with the progress of the project.”
Touching on the delays of the project since its unveiling, Mr. Zida told our reporter Moses Apiah that the acquisition of the land and its registration in the name of the Ghana Football Association also played a part.
“…unlike the previous FIFA Goal Regulations, ownership of land was not a condition precedent to application for FIFA projects. But that has changed, so it was a key step under the FIFA Goal Regulations and we are happy to have completed that. For this, the Ghana Football Association is extremely grateful to all stakeholders including traditional leaders, the Bolgatanga Secondary School and the Land Commission Office for such a task.”
The project is fully funded by FIFA.
