The hierarchy of a newly promoted division one side, Kasena Nankana United, is wailing over the team’s lack of a befitting stadium for their upcoming league matches.

Kassena Nankana United, a young team located in Navrongo, gained promotion to the second tier in a remarkable fashion as they played a total of thirteen (13) matches unbeaten. The team’s main aim is to use football as a tool to promote unity and propel the development of the town.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the club, Azanlerigu Cherry Mboma, this phenomenal feat the club has chalked on the cusp of being hampered by the lack of a standard pitch for its (club) home matches.

In an exclusive interview with A1 Sports on Thursday, Mr. Mboma humbly appealed to the government, corporate bodies, philanthropies, traditional rulers in the region and all sports-loving fans to see it as a matter of necessity to contribute immensely towards the completion of the Navrongo Sports Stadium so the team can have a home ground for their league matches.

He said if the Navrongo stadium is not completed before the commencement of the national division one league, the club will be compelled to adopt the Aliu Mahama’s Sports Stadium in Tamale as their home venue, lamenting that would have a devastating effect on the team’s performances and finances.

“Our biggest challenge is infrastructure, where to play the division one league is our issue now. We have a stadium that is not completed at Navrongo since 2017 and we are hoping that if this project is completed, it will serve a very big purpose. So if I’m asked, that is a very big problem that we face here. Because playing in Tamale is not going to be easy and I’m not sure the management as it stands can afford to play their home in Tamale.

So we are appealing. That’s why when you monitor some of the issues trending you will see complete the Navrongo Sports Stadium is one of the key issues trending today because without the stadium we can not take part in this year’s league. We can’t play in Tamale,” he pleaded.

Fc Tanga withdrew from the division 2016/2017 division one league due to a lack of home venue. In a similar vein, Bolga All Stars were relegated from the national premier league in 2017 having adopted the Tamale sports stadium as their home ground. All Stars returned to the first division this year but have been unfortunately relegated with a game to spare due to the same problem.

This, Mr. Mboma fears if the youth and all concerned citizens in the region do not stand up and champion the development of the region, football in the region will continue to suffer. He is thus calling on appropriate authorities to try their best to endure the project is completed.

Kassena Nankana United finished first in zone two; a zone comprising Paga Afini Stars, Wiaga United, Paga Crocodile Stars, Paga FC and Navrongo Mission Warriors. The club proceeded to beat Walewale Catholic Stars two goals to one(2-1), they recorded a convincing 3-1 win over Sheaga Stars before Qdrubbing Samba Stars by four goals to nil(4-0).

Mr. Mboma is full of optimism that if the stadium is completed before the commencement of the new season, Kasena Nankana United can bring premier league football to the region thereby creating an economic boom.

The club was established in 2018 to serve as a unifier to the people of Navrongo. Paramount Chief of the Navrongo traditional area, Pe Denis Balinia Adda Asagpaare II, is Patrick of the club.

The 2022/2023 edition of the national division one league starts in September.
