The Navrongo central constituency chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress Alhaji Baba Alhassan has justified the constituency executive’s decision to kick against the nomination of Lawyer Peter Kaba to contest in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.

Lawyer Peter Kaba pulled out of the contest for reasons yet to be established. His decision to withdraw from the contest was however challenged by some polling station executives in the constituency who accused the constituency executives and incumbent MP Hon. Mark Woyongo of deliberately frustrating Lawyer Peter Kaba out of the race. According to them, he was prevailed upon by the executives to step down and further rejected his dues which were finally paid to the regional executives.

Constituency chairman in an interview with Azongo Albert said Lawyer Kaba’s withdrawal from the race was his personal decision and the constituency executives are not previewed to the reasons for his decision.

“He dropped but we don’t know why he dropped or maybe because we said we don’t know him. The party has its guidelines.  If you pick the form, the form will ask you so many questions. So I think he withdrew because we said we don’t know him and actually we don’t know him in the party. The withdrawal was his decision on the vetting day. The guideline says that you have to be an active member of the party in the constituency for four good years before you get qualified to contest. We met him first time in July this year and he doesn’t know me and I don’t know him all though he is from Navrongo.”

The chairman however dismissed assertions that Hon. Mark Woyongo may step aside before the 2016 general elections due to ill health.

Barring any objections before the November 7 parliamentary primaries, interior minister Mark Woyongo will be acclaimed the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress for the Navrongo central constituency.
