Students in  Ataampuurum ‘A’ Junior High School in Sumburungo, a suburb of the Bolgatanga Municipality of Upper East Region could not hide their joy after a market-leading telecom tower infrastructure company, Helios Towers handed over an ICT facility to school management and the community leaders for effective ICT studies.

The students who jubilated after seeing the computers in the facility told A1News that, they were thrilled because the laboratory, for many of them, presents them with their first interaction with a real computer.

The students who spoke with A1 News said the lab will go a long way to help them in their studies, especially in the area of ICT. To enhance the learning experience, all the laptop computers have been connected to internet service by Airtel Tigo internet.

A Junior High School three (3) pupil, Evelyn Alagyon said, “we are very happy to have an ICT lab in our school now because it will help us in ICT learning, especially with our practicals. Our teachers always teach us things about the computer and draw it on the board but some of us have never sat before a computer so we are happy that we are now having computers in the school.”

Veronica Abagna also said, “I am happy because it will help us improve on our ICT learning skills, the ICT is full of practicals and any time we learn up to that part, our teacher always finds it difficult to let us understand. With these computers, I know that ICT studies will now be easy for us to understand and see some of the things we have been learning about.”

Aterike Asore, also a JHS three (3) student said, “we like the ICT subject but because we were not having computers it was always difficult for us to understand some of the features but now that Helios Towers has provided us with this lab, we can now see everything about ICT. We want to tell them that we are grateful.”

Meanwhile, speaking at a short handing-over ceremony, the Managing Director of Helios Towers, Fritz Dzeklo urged the community members and the school management as well as the students to well maintain the facility for future generations to also benefit from it.
