UE: Nambawan to release track dubbed ’20k’ to address industry challenges

As part of efforts to address the controversies surrounding the Upper Music industry spanning from the award scheme and the roles of industry players to promote Upper East Music, the reigning 2021 Happy Man Bitters Upper East Music Awards Artist of the year, Nambawan is set to release a single titled ‘20k’ to give an inside story to the happenings in the industry.

Nambawan bagged GHc 20,000.00 for winning the Artist of the year in the 2021 edition of the Upper East Music Awards.

Speaking to A1 News’ Kennedy Zongbil, the fast-rising talented musician explained that, the anticipated 20k single seeks to address the controversies surrounding Upper East Music Awards which has raised several eyebrows and came under intense criticism from pundits and artists in the creative industry on traditional media and social media, with regard to the organization of the award scheme.

He noted that being the reigning Artist of the year, duty behoves that he helps address what he described as the ‘unpleasant’ happenings in the music industry.

He stated, “about 20k, you know there are a lot of unpleasant things happening here in the music scene and I feel like I’m the artiste of the year, I’m with the crown now. I have always been the spokesperson for the industry, but with 20k I am just trying to address some of the issues”.

According to him, the single is not just about what he got when he won the Artist of the year but “this one [the song] is not specifically for that. It is about 20k issues, we have a lot of issues surrounding the industry that if we could at least manage some; we cannot eradicate, I mean we cannot do away with everything but if we could manage them in a certain way I think it could help us and help push Upper East Music.

He said the yet-to-be-released single should not be misinterpreted to mean negativity but as a way to address the controversies surrounding the music industry in the Region in recent times, it could be recalled that, due to these controversies the headline sponsor of Upper Music Awards pulled out of the scheme momentarily.
