“This is Nana Addo’s idea. If he builds this cathedral, it is going to be there for Ghana. It is not going to be there for NPP or going to be there for Nana Addo or any other person. People are criticizing it because sometimes they think that it’s the NPP government that is doing it.”

These are the words of the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show today, July 29, 2022.

He said it is unfortunate people play politics with everything in Ghana.

The regional minister refuted claims that the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) donated GH₵105, 000 towards the construction of the National Cathedral. He said the monies were raised from individuals in the various districts.

“These monies that we talked about are monies that we raised from the various districts. So all the municipals and the district assemblies were supposed to raise monies from individuals and also from the DCEs, if they can, and I told the DCEs and they’re aware and they know that they can never go into the government kitty and take any money for that support.”

“If anyone has evidence that a DCE or I as a regional minister went into government kitty and took money to support this fantastic idea that the President wants to bring then the person should bring that evidence.”

The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu also singled out the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme being implemented by the governing New Patriotic Party as one singular achievement that the North will never forget.

“One particular thing that no one should forget in this region is the free education. Earlier on I told you how difficult it was for me when I was growing up to educate myself and all that. And am sitting here today because I’ve been able to educate myself or my parents have contributed to my education. Without education probably is very difficult to sometimes move.”
