President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that government is currently undertaking a project called Regional Capitals Roads Improvement project, which is meant to give a facelift to existing roads in all the Regional Capitals in the country of which 10 kilometers has already been approved for Bolgatanga.
This project, according to him, will select major roads in the various Regional capitals of which the Upper East Regional capital, Bolgatanga will be a beneficiary. The president made this disclosure when he was addressing the Regional House of chiefs on Thursday in Bolgatanga.
“We are doing a project called regional capitals roads improvement project and it’s going to affect all the 10 regional capitals in this country and Bolga is going to be included as capital of the upper east region. We are going to select several roads and so far I know about 10 kilometers of road has been approved for Bolga and after the 10 kilometers we will look at what other roads need to be upgraded. So very soon you will see a facelift of the region” he said.
The president acknowledged that poor roads have been the bane of most of the constituencies in the Upper East Region but promised that the government is doing all that it can to build better roads for the people of Upper East Region.
“Roads are the most important issues affecting most of the constituencies in this region. Government is doing a lot in respect of the road network.”
He mentioned that, he still holds on to his promise made to the Bawku Naaba of fixing the Bolga-Bawku roads adding that the contractor given the project has started some work on a portion of the roads and that the government is in talks with another contractor to take up from where the first contractor’s work ends. He assured the Chiefs that before he comes back to the region next year, the roads will be fixed.
He noted that the Bongo road has seen a steady progress but indicated that the Chief of the area had notified him of the deteriorated state of the old roads built in the area but attributed it to poor engineering works. He promised to get the contractor working on that road do a resealing of the road.
