The Impasse Between Anas And Former AG Is A “Holier Than Thou” Fight

A private legal practitioner Lawyer Joseph Kpemka says the current rift between former Attorney General Martin Amidu and ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas is a fight for integrity.

The anti-corruption campaigner and former AG Martin Amidu has descended heavily on the credibility of the investigations of Anas Aremeyaw Anas whose investigative work on the judiciary shocked the nation three months ago.

Mr. Martin Amidu in separate statements alleged that the recent investigations carried out by Anas and his “unregistered and fraudulent” company Tiger eye PI was commissioned by government. In a response, Anas Aremeyaw Anas says the former AG is confused and telling white lies. According to Anas, Martin Amidu has not produced the evidence he vowed to produce to authenticate his claims that government commissioned the investigations and has censored some footage to protect corrupt government officials.

The ongoing ruckus between the two anti-corruption campaigners has generated a whole lot of debate over who is telling the truth.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show on Wednesday, private legal practitioner Lawyer Joseph Kpemka described the current happenings as unfortunate and a fight for integrity and credibility. He added that the two individuals are noted for their track records in fighting corruption and so it has become difficult for any of them to be accused of insincerity and wrong doing. The current impasse between them according to him may only offer the opportunity for each one of them to prove his credibility.

He said “These are two anti-corruption bodies and personalities and one is claiming to be more pious than the other. There has never been a single allegation of act of impropriety against Martin Amidu. If there is anything at all then he suffered for his principles. Now he is raising these things against Anas and raising issues of fraud. When fraud is raised, particularized and established then it reshapes everything. All the works he has done in the past against personalities can be nullified if it is established that indeed the company did not exist at the time the investigations were conducted. It has far implication on the integrity of Anas and has far implications on the integrity of Martin Amidu. If one of them succeeds in establishing the truth and the other is not able to do so then that person’s credibility will be in doubt.”

Lawyer Kpemka however added that he would have no reason to doubt some of the claims made by the former Attorney General because he has over the years proven to be credible, principled and apt with his actions in the fight against corruption.

He noted that “the man (Martin Amidu) is speaking as an insider who we would find very difficult to doubt. If a fish comes out of water to say the crocodile is dead, who are you to doubt it?”

Meanwhile Anas Aremeyaw Anas in a response to the accusation of fraud against Tiger eye PI, advised the former Attorney General to appreciate and support the work being done by them (Tiger eye PI) instead of diminishing the light that both Mr. Amidu and Anas have blazed.

Anas wrote “The light of your candle has probably blazed and radiated our path. Kindly rest, assured that our work does not seek, in any way, to dim or diminish your glow and radiance. We recommend to you the deeply reflective eternal words of the American clergyman, James Keller that “a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.” We add our own words, that the brightness of your candle is not in any way reduced when another lighted candle is brought into the room. You have done a great job. History will be kind to you. Don’t pick a fight in an empty room. Don’t allow an ill-advised, unfortunate, unnecessary and regrettable hubris to destroy it.”
