Roger Haun’s excitement about winning the 2 medals at a recent unicycling championship for Ghana was through the roof when he spoke to Mark Kwasi Ahumah Smith on A1 Radio’s Day Upper East Show today, Thursday, August 11, 2022.
While admitting that training ahead for the championship was tough, Master Haun III said it was a fulfilling one.
“There were two different races I trained for. There was one-foot riding. It was where the race is 50 metres and you have to ride with only one foot on the pedal. The other race was hill walk, where your feet aren’t on the pedals. You have to put your feet on the tire and move with it.”
He recalled marking parts of the road in Nalerigu for the purposes of training. Master Haun also recounted training with his father, William Haun.
William Haun who joined the conversation explained that “we picked it up [uncycling] only about 2 years ago. We really enjoyed doing it. He [Roger Haun] worked hard and had some friends here in Nalerigu to ride with. There’re 3 boys and they ride all the time together. By doing that, he had some good training and was prepared.”
Roger Haun made history at the 2022 Unicycling World Champions. He won 2 medals on behalf of Ghana.
