Suspended national chairman of the New Patriotic Party Paul Afoko has called the bluff of the party’s national council, insisting he is still the chairman of the party.

“I am the chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and I still want to be able to go forward with my party to win the next general elections,” a visibly angry Afoko told journalists Wednesday at a press conference.

This is the first public statements made by Afoko since he was suspended by the party over a month ago.

Afoko who failed to give details on the issues that led to his suspension described the petitions against him as “baseless.”

“Please for those who know, they will understand why I will not go into the details because I need to give my party a fighting chance as the chairman of the party… If there is persistence, then the baseless petitions will be answered and we will all see how baseless they are.”

Afoko added: “The owners of the party are not the 70 people who sat in the room at the national council meeting… all those who voted at the council meeting voted against my candidature.”
