The Bolgatanga Technical University in collaboration with Camfed Ghana has organized a two-month Technical and Vocational Educational Training for 302 females.

The training was to help address the unemployment concerns in the Upper East Region.

According to the 2021 Population Housing Census (PHC), two out of every six young people are unemployed. The situation is said to be direr amongst girls.

The training, according to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Samuel Alna will equip the young ladies for the job market. It would also build their confidence in the male-dominant field.

“Do not feel intimidated by your male counterparts because you all have intellectual capabilities in the job market. This training is meant to build your competency and capabilities and also open opportunities for you to be self-employed. So, those of you who will like to expand your skills further, our university gate is opened for you.”

Block laying, plumbing, graphic design, and welding were but a few of the TVET courses they understudied for two months.

Mohamad Rashida Atiah, one of the beneficiaries said the training has exposed her to numerous opportunities.

“The hairdressing and sewing ventures are choked, the reason I decided to join this training. Now, I have my certificate in welding. My plan is now on how to get a place and start doing something small.”

Head of Finance and Operations of Camfed, Feiruza Abdul-Rashid used the opportunity to encourage them to persevere and make the organization and their families proud.
