The Upper East Regional Security Council (UEREGSEC) has instituted measures to help tackle the armed robbery cases recently recorded along the Bolgatanga-Walewale stretch of road.

There have been reports of armed robbery cases along that stretch of road, with the most recent recorded on Thursday, January 5, 2023. A cargo vehicle, full of cattle, reportedly heading from Bawku in the Upper East Region to the southern part of the country, was attacked by suspected robbers.

Commenting on the issue on Daybreak Upper East show, the Upper East Regional minister who doubles as the Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) said the council has resolved to provide security escort to vehicles travelling along the Bolga – Walewale stretch.

He said, “in the space of about two weeks, three vehicles were attacked there. What we are doing is that we are now doing escort [services] and we appeal that people should give us information for us to stop this because it goes on to feed the Bawku crisis. I think that in 2023, we want to live in peace.”

“So those who are doing that, can you stop this because it’s an international road running all the way to Burkina Faso. What is happening there is affecting not a particular area in the country, but it’s also affecting Burkina Faso and all that corridor. For now we have instituted an escort [service] at night and it’s getting better.”
