NDC’s current minority leadership is incompetent – Peter Ayinbisa

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) minority leadership’s incompetence resulted in the successful approval of ministers in Parliament on Friday, March 24, 2023. According to Peter Ayinbisa, Upper East Regional Communications Officer for the NPP, the minority in Parliament headed by the MP for Tamale South, Haruna South, was a more formidable force than Cassiel Ato Forson’s minority.

“When they took Haruna Iddrisu out, that was the result of what is happening in Parliament today. It is about the ability of the leadership to rally the support base and the rest of the members to follow you. That is a leader. [The current leader is ineffective] and he knows that. That is why some of them [the NDC MPs] are calling for his head. He was not able to get things done. Remember what the Speaker told him? He has to be able to multitask,” he said when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.

Mr. Ayinbisa explained that while the MPs are in Parliament on the tickets of known political parties, they should seek and support activities that are in the national interest, such as approving ministers into sensitive areas of the economy.

Yes, they are for political parties, but they should consider the interests of the nation. What they are doing now is in the interest of the nation. The interest of the nation is that we cannot allow ministries such as agriculture, trade and industry ministries to be empty.”

Meanwhile, the minority Members of Parliament (MP) would have to explain to the delegates in the upcoming primaries why some of them voted in favour of the approval of the ministers in Parliament on Friday, March 24, 2023.

Additionally, some MPs may have to prove to delegates that they did not vote to approve the ministers. These actions are expected from the MPs to help manage the dashed expectations and hopes of members of the NDC.

Failure to do the above, as well as apologise to delegates, would mean that the chances of the MPs could be affected.

Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, the Upper East Regional Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), made these comments when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show yesterday.

“Because of the bashing, they [the MPs] are trying to explain themselves on social media. Forget about the [private] platforms. On social media where everyone can read, they are explaining themselves. Meanwhile, there are primaries coming up. So they should go and explain to the delegates. They [the delegates] would ask them [the MPs]. This is a fresh issue. If not for this [the approval of the ministers], they would have been in their constituencies campaigning.”
