The Upper East Regional Coordinating Council has commended Bolgatanga-based A1 Radio, a subsidiary of Agreed Best Communication Limited, for leading media discussions around building peace and managing conflicts in the Upper East Region.

“This is not only appropriate but timely, considering the increasing number of communal conflicts in the region, hence the need for engagement sessions such as this which seek to build and promote peace, co-existence and harmony in our communities. It is against this backdrop that the Regional Coordinating Council, with the overall responsibility of ensuring peace and security in the region, wishes to commend A1 Radio and NABOCADO for their sense of initiative. Peace is the foundation or basis for our development as a people.”

The Chief Director of the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, Alhaji Abubakr Inusah, made these comments on behalf of the Upper East Regional Minister at a peacebuilding and conflict management roundtable discussion held by A1 Radio with support from NABOCADO.

At the same meeting, it communicated that the UERCC had noted that the feuding factions in the Bawku conflict have been spreading the conflict beyond the central point of Bawku.

According to the Secretary of REGSEC, who doubles as the Chief Director of the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, Alhaji Abubakar Inusah, there have been reports of ethnic clashes outside the Bawku municipality, and concerns about same in Accra, the national capital.

“For now, most of our issues have to do with Bawku. I am sad to state that we are losing control. Initially, we thought it was just within the municipality, within the township, but now, it is extending to the peripheries. Even this morning, I heard over the national media that it is even getting to Accra. The tribes, the feuding factions, are extending it to their people in Accra,” he said, audibly worried.
