It would be recalled that some Fulanis were transferred and temporarily accommodated at the Bolgatanga Sports Stadium following serious altercations between the youth of Sherigu, a community in the Bolgatanga Municipality, and the herdsmen.

Many people in the Upper East Region have sharply criticised this action. A group of residents also said that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, insisted on having the Fulanis taken to the Bolgatanga Sport Stadium. It was also claimed that the VEEP had been utilising a helicopter to deliver food and food-related items to the temporarily relocated Fulanis.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, has mounted a spirited defence of the Vice President and has rubbished all the allegations.

Speaking with Mark Smith on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show, Mr. Yakubu explained that the VEEP has had no hand in the issues.

“When the Vice President was coming here to commission this fantastic building that they did for the chiefs, after a second thought, he landed at the Bolgatanga Girls Secondary School. That is where he landed. He came through there and left at that point. There has been this information out there that the Vice President actually brought items for them. It is not true. It is completely not true. Why are we doing this to ourselves? I mean, you do not lie to win elections,” he said.

Mr. Yakubu expressed disappointment that a group of individuals had decided to milk the situation for their political benefit.
