The Deputy Communications Director of the NPP in the Upper East Region, Andrew Atariwini, is advocating the employment of a concerted effort to boost interest in agricultural-related courses among students at tertiary institutions.

Mr. Atariwini emphasised that this can be achieved by expanding the number of agricultural training institutions across the country, particularly in the northern regions of Ghana.

“I think a lot of the young people haven’t shown much of an interest in this area [Agric]. I think we will have to whip up interest so that young people will understand that they can make a life in that area.”

Furthermore, Mr. Atariwini called on the government and policymakers to take action by increasing the number of agricultural training institutions nationwide.

He proposed, “The training institutions are also limited. I think for the five (5) regions, the least we can have is to have one in each region. If not, I will even say that, at least you can even zone them like we have with the nursing training institutions, it will be very good.”

He further noted that the conversation should take a broader non-political approach considering the livelihood of the people.
