The Upper East Regional Deputy Communication Officer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Andrew Atariwini, has taken on NPP flagbearership aspirant Kwabena Aygapond in his new dawn mantra.

According to Mr. Atariwini, the term is old-fashioned and does not meet the standards of modern-day politics.

He said “Kwabena Agyapong is a fine man, but he has lost track with the party; all those things he said are only good to the ears of people who are opposing this political party and cannot be considered to be right. that his new dawn is an old mantra that we used back at SHS when we wanted to contest for SRC elections”.

Mr. Atariwini was of the opinion that the vice president of the country, Dr. Mahumudu Bawumia, who is in the NPP flagbearer race, has a chance of winning the race and ultimately the 2024 general election.

“I believe that Bawumia will win in the Upper East Region and the flagbearer race not because someone is coerced but because of his track record, what he has done for this party, and what he represents. We in the Upper East have no reason not to support the likes of Bawumia.”

He made these remarks to Mark Smith on A1 Radio`s Daybreak Upper East show in line with the NPP superdelegates conference scheduled for August 26, 2023.

It will be recalled that Kwabena Agyapong, after filing his nomination, said, “The country deserves a new dawn, a new direction, and a new face that would be able to connect with the Ghanaian people and restore the confidence that the Ghanaians have in the constitution and that I represent”.

The Upper East Regional Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress,Jonathan Abdallah Salifu,  refuted his claim that the vice president has a chance of winning the 2024 general elections, saying that the vote will be decided by records and that the vice does not have a chance of beating the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
