The controversial leaked tape that allegedly indicates a plot to have the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, removed from his position has now been confirmed by the former Northern Regional Chairman, Bugri Naabu.

He confirmed this when he appeared before the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee on Monday August 28, 2033 that is tasked to delve into the alleged plot to oust the IGP.

Bugri Naabu admitted that he and three other senior police officers had the contentious conversation that caused so much commotion.

He further named the three police officers as one Commander Asare, COP Mensah and Superintendent Gyebi.

The former Northern Regional chairman said the conversation took place within the confines of his office located in Osu.

He detailed that two of the  senior officers approached him with an idea to plot against the IGP for his removal  with the claim that the IGP was more aligned to the National Democratic Congress than the New Patriotic Party.

This he said the officers claimed has the tendency of  undermining the ruling New Patriotic Party  in maintaining political power in the 2024 general elections and therefore the need for him to be ousted.

He said this demand by the top officers scared him and that triggered his decision to record them to make it difficult for them to be able to deny any future eventualities.

Three of the officers are set to appear before the committee on Thursday, August 31,2023.

The Ad- Hoc committee chaired by Samuel Atta Akyea has the mandate to investigate both the authenticity of the leaked tape and the  allegations that have drawn the nation’s attention.
