Professor Kwame Karikari, a distinguished academic and media expert, has called on media professionals to actively promote and preserve the cultural identity of their operational areas.
Emphasizing the crucial role of media in society, Professor Karikari underscored the responsibility of journalists to work within the purview of promoting and preserving cultural values.
Professor Karikari, who was speaking on the occasion of International World Radio Day on A1 Radio, questioned the purpose of the media if its practitioners fail to leverage it as a tool for promoting and preserving cultural identity.
He reasoned that media professionals should be conscious of the significant impact they can have on shaping societal values and preserving cultural heritage through their work.
Professor Karikari stressed that the media serves a higher purpose beyond merely disseminating information, therefore, its practitioners have a responsibility to align their work with the promotion and preservation of cultural identity.
He urged media professionals to resist the temptation of succumbing to globalized trends that might dilute or erode the unique cultural fabric of their operational areas.
Instead, he encouraged journalists to use their platforms to celebrate and amplify the diverse cultural tapestry that defines their regions by consciously incorporating the promotion and preservation of cultural identity into their work.
