The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate (PC) for the Chiana-Paga constituency in the Upper East Region has promised to assist the Bembisi community in the Kassena-Nankana West District’s strife to be connected to the national grid.

The Bembisi community has only two structures connected to the national electricity grid. The structures are the health center in the community and a pub. Community members say that the absence of electricity in the community has had serious repercussions on their lives.

The two assembly members who represent the community, Charles Anyunga and Albert Aloore Ayeriga, speaking to A1 Radio’s Mark Smith on the Day Break Upper East Show, stated that in 2020, the community decided that until they were connected to the national grid, they were not going to partake in the 2020 general election.

They were, however, convinced to vote. One of the individuals who succeeded in getting the community to vote was the then PC for the NPP, Robert Aloo. However, after failing to get the nod to head to parliament, his promise to get the community connected to the national grid did not materialize. This was despite the fact that concrete electricity poles had been taken to the community.

In response to the concerns raised about the electricity situation, Mr. Aloo, who spoke to Mark Smith, said once he has been re-elected as PC, he would use the power of the office to seek assistance on behalf of the community.
