The parliamentary candidate for the Chiana-Paga constituency on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party, Robert Aloo, has dismissed assertions by the NDC parliamentary candidate, Nikyema Billa Alamzy, that the NPP is a ‘one-man party’ in the Chiana-Paga constituency.
On March 7, 2024, Mr. Alamzy, in an interview with Mark A. Smith on the Daybreak Upper East show, said, “Mr. Aloo is fighting for relevance within his own party and as such, has little strength and attention left to deal with matters directly related to the election.”
But responding to the issue on Daybreak Upper East, Mr. Aloo said there is no division in the party, and that, from the constituency chairman to all the polling station executives, everyone is focused on snatching the seat from the NDC.
According to him, the party has well-resourced people in the constituency solidly behind him, working to win the seat and garner votes for the Vice President.
He said, “I don’t know what he meant by ‘one-man party.’ Do we have a ‘one-man party’ in this country? A party is a group of people who believe in the same ideologies and come together to propagate those ideologies. So for someone to say we are a ‘one-man party,’ I don’t know what he meant by that. I am the Parliamentary candidate, and I am the face of the party in the Chiana-Paga constituency. I am supported by my constituency chairman, all the other executives, and any other stakeholders in the party in the Chiana-Paga constituency. I don’t say that because I’m leading the party, I am a ‘one-man party,’ maybe he has his own thinking. We are working together as a solid team, but you see, my people are resourceful, and it is not my fault that he doesn’t have resourceful people. I’m supported by my party leadership, so for him to say that it’s a ‘one-man party’ and I’m looking for space, I don’t know what space I’m looking for to campaign. The state of the NPP in the Chiana-Paga constituency is a solid team working together, and everybody knows it.”
