The Executive Director for Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NORPRA), Bismark Ayorogo, has expressed strong disappointment against the 15 Members of Parliament from the Upper East Region.
Mr. Ayorogo, speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show today, May 25, 2024, explained that the MPs had done very little over the years to ensure that the government does right by the people of the Upper East Region, stressing that the people of the region “should be weeping” because of the situation.
“If they were doing enough, we would not have gotten to where we are. It is like the situation they said, when you get to a house and then a goat is barking, and then the dog is lying down, then there is a serious problem. Look at people like myself and people like you who would prioritize issues like these. In Parliament, I was expecting that they [the 15 MPs] would have been aggressive,” he said.
Mr. Ayorogo’s comments were made on the back of a petition his organization wrote to Parliament and the Auditor-General over the state of the One Village One Dam projects.
He said since some of the dams were to benefit farmers in the Upper East Region, the MPs would be concerned and demand that the government ensures that the dams were properly constructed.
“They should have been worried that the government engaged in broad daylight robbery of the poor and vulnerable in northern Ghana,” he said.
