A PhD Candidate specializing in Political Science Communications, Ayam Atura Fidelis, in an interview on Daybreak Upper East on Thursday, stated that there is a great sense of satisfaction within the NPP regarding Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s selection as the running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He said on A1 Radio that despite public perceptions of Dr. Prempeh being arrogant, the party sees his confidence and assertiveness as attributes that can effectively mobilize support and bolster their electoral chances.
“People say he’s arrogant, but the NPP has identified him as the person who can help get the numbers.”
He stated that economic challenges during the NPP’s tenure have not gone unnoticed, and Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s role within the party’s strategy is seen as pivotal. He said the NPP aims to address these issues through strategic policy initiatives that appeal to both their loyal supporters and undecided voters.
He noted that while the NPP believes Napo brings a strong impact and appeal to their ticket, they acknowledge that the NDC’s running mate presents a different set of competence that may resonate with specific voter demographics.
However, Mr. Atura expressed concerns that certain utterances could potentially alienate voters, posing a risk to the party’s electoral success. He noted that these remarks might inadvertently drive supporters away from the NPP.
Despite this, Mr. Atura suggested that Dr. Prempeh’s perceived arrogance may not significantly impact his candidacy, but it remains a point of contention that the NPP will likely address.
He stated that the candidate should adjust his public approach towards certain things. “The only way he can truly assist the party is by toning down the manner in which he communicates,” he advised.
