The German Development Cooperation has distributed 2.1 metric tons of certified seeds to women cooperatives in the North East and Upper East regions. The seeds include soybean, groundnut, and sesame varieties.
The support, which aims to increase the production capacity of women farmers, particularly in the seed oil crop value chain, is part of a project being implemented in collaboration with Hights Enterprise Limited based in the Upper East region.
At a short ceremony in Bolgatanga to distribute the seeds, Eunice Agyeiwah Agyepong, Technical Advisor of Invest for Jobs, emphasized the need to support women farmers in Ghana.
According to Ms. Agyepong, the objective of the partnership project is, among others, to create employment opportunities for 100 women within the oil crop value chain and improve the incomes of 250 women in the North East and Upper East regions of Ghana.
“By supporting these women to grow and expand, we are equally supporting a household to thrive, a community to grow, and a nation to prosper,” she stated.
On his part, Mathew Akayeti Naamlemna, CEO of Hights Enterprise Limited, expressed his delight in partnering with the German Development Cooperation to support the growth of women cooperatives and enterprises in the region. The women were happy for the support.
