The Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Atamale Lemyaarum, has called on former president and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, to be decorous in his campaign as the country draws closer to December 7, 2024.
He urged both candidates to conduct their campaigns with decency and mutual respect.
The chief made the appeal during a recent visit of the former president to the palace of the Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area.
“I want to appeal to former President John Mahama to be decorous in his campaign messages because his opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is equally his brother,” the Chief said, emphasizing the importance of respectful political discourse.
The Chief expressed his gratitude for the Toyota Hilux pickup truck previously gifted by Mr. Mahama, which he said has been instrumental in supporting his business activities.
In addition to his call for civility, the Chief made a specific request for the future development of the Bongo area.
He urged Mahama, should he win the 2024 elections, to establish a training college in the region to support local education and development.
In response, John Mahama assured the Chief and his community of his commitment to a clean and fair campaign.
He emphasized that the NDC is known for its dedication to peace and expressed his intention to honor the promises made to the Bongo Traditional Area in previous election cycles.
The former president reiterated his party’s pledge to uphold integrity throughout the campaign period and to fulfill the developmental needs of the region if elected.
