The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nabdam, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, has responded to critics who believe his opponent from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is better suited to represent the constituency.

Dr. Nawaane acknowledged that his opponent might possess certain qualities but stressed that effective representation requires more than just popularity or general skills.

“Yes, he can represent the constituency, but in selecting someone for this role, we must look beyond the individual’s daily life,” Dr. Nawaane stated.

Speaking on A1 Radio, the legislator stressed the importance of considering the broader implications of a candidate’s role in Parliament, asking voters to reflect on what specific contributions his opponent could make.

Dr. Nawaane, who serves on the Health Committee in Parliament, highlighted the importance of aligning a representative’s professional expertise with their parliamentary responsibilities.

“I am on the Health Committee because of my background as a doctor,” he explained. “Others serve on the Finance Committee due to their financial expertise. In Parliament, if the leadership is unsure where a member can best function, it can negatively impact both the individual and the constituency they represent.”

He questioned what added value his opponent, who has experience in illegal mining activities (Galamsey), could bring to the Land and Natural Resources Committee.

“One might argue that he could be placed on the Land and Natural Resources Committee due to his background in Galamsey, but what expertise would he offer that directly or indirectly benefits the people of Nabdam?” Dr. Nawaane asked.

Dr. Nawaane urged constituents to think critically about their choice, considering not only who can win an election but who can effectively represent Nabdam’s interests in Parliament and contribute to the development of the Upper East Region and Ghana as a whole.
