The special voting exercise is underway across the Upper East Region, with 7,080 eligible voters expected to cast their ballots ahead of the main election day.
The exercise, which began at 7:00 AM, is being conducted at designated polling stations across the region to accommodate personnel such as security operatives, election officials, and media practitioners who will be on duty on election day.
In an interview with A1 Radio, the Upper East Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), William Obeng Adarkwa, reported that the exercise had started smoothly at most polling centers.
“So far, reports from the centers indicate that everything is going according to plan. The setup was completed early, and voting started on time. No major incidents have been reported,” Mr. Adarkwa said.
He assured voters of the EC’s commitment to a credible and transparent process, emphasizing the measures in place to address any challenges that may arise. He also noted that all voting materials, including ballot boxes and verification machines, had been dispatched to the centers in advance to prevent delays.
A visit to some polling stations in the regional capital, Bolgatanga, revealed a calm and orderly atmosphere, with voters queuing peacefully to cast their ballots. Security personnel were on-site to maintain order and ensure the safety of the exercise.
Speaking to A1 Radio, some voters expressed satisfaction with the process, citing the efficiency of EC officials on the ground.
“I came here expecting a long wait, but the process has been very smooth so far. I’ve already cast my vote,” said a voter in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency.
The special voting exercise provides an opportunity for those engaged in critical national duties on election day to fulfill their civic responsibility.
Across the Upper East Region, the EC is supervising the exercise at polling stations in various constituencies, ensuring that all eligible voters can participate without hitches. Representatives from ECOWAS Election Observation Mission were also seen at some centers, particularly in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency.
