The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), and National Insurance Commission (NIC) have launched a joint operation dubbed “Comply to End Road Accidents” in the Upper East Region.
The exercise, which began on Thursday, December 19, 2024, will run until January 8, 2025.
This initiative aims to educate, guide, and correct drivers and motor users to obtain the appropriate documents and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Zachariah Laari, the Upper East Regional Director of NRSA, emphasized the importance of compliance with road traffic regulations and vehicle standards. He warned that those who deliberately flout these laws would face strict enforcement.
Chief Superintendent Williams Kpormegbe, Regional Commander of the MTTD, stated, “This exercise focuses on education, not confrontation. However, after this phase, the law will be strictly enforced.”
The Regional Director of DVLA advised drivers to rest when fatigued to minimize accidents and cautioned against using “killer lamps” at night.
Meanwhile, Ernest Osie Adofo, Regional Director of NIC, underscored the importance of insuring all vehicles, including motorbikes, to ensure safety and compliance.
The operation is part of efforts to reduce road accidents and promote safety across the region.
