The Paramount Chief of Chiana, PE Ditundini Adiali Ayagitam III, has emerged victorious in the Council of State election for the Upper East Region, securing 18 out of 30 valid votes cast.
His victory underscores the confidence delegates have placed in him to champion development and welfare issues in the region.
The election, conducted smoothly by the Electoral Commission, recorded no spoilt ballots, according to the returning officer.
In his post-election address, the newly elected Council of State member outlined an ambitious agenda focused on revitalizing the region’s economy and improving livelihoods.
He pledged to advocate for the welfare of Assembly members, particularly their allowances, to enhance their effectiveness in local governance.
Additionally, he vowed to push for the construction of an airport in the Upper East Region to boost connectivity and economic activities.
PE Ditundini Adiali Ayagitam III also emphasized the need to revive three defunct factories in the region—tomato, meat, and cotton processing plants—to create jobs and stimulate agro-based industries.
Furthermore, he promised to advocate for the construction of irrigation dams to support dry-season farming, addressing food security challenges faced by farmers in the area.
The election saw Thomas More secure a distant second place with five votes, while Peter Baba Aluze-ele and Justice Aduko garnered three and two votes, respectively.
Balinia Adda Dennis and Bismarck Adongo Ayorogo each managed a single vote, while Elias Ayinbila Apasiya received none. Initially, nine candidates filed to contest the election, but two withdrew days before the polls.
The victory of PE Ditundini Adiali Ayagitam III has been hailed as a step toward addressing the developmental needs of the Upper East Region, with many hopeful that his tenure will bring tangible progress.
