The General Manager of Home Food Restaurant, Abugre Azitoo Robert, has cautioned the public to be mindful of the food they consume and where they purchase it to avoid contamination.
According to him, food sold in open spaces without proper covering or protection from dust is at high risk of contamination, making it unsafe for consumption. He emphasized the need for consumers to prioritize hygiene when choosing where to buy food.
“Everyone buying food should be cautious about what they are purchasing. You are paying for it, not begging, so don’t buy illness for yourself,” he advised.
“The air is often filled with dust, especially during certain seasons. We must be extra careful about what we consume. Avoid buying food that is not prepared under hygienic conditions or is left exposed. We live in a region where open defecation is still practiced, which means the dust in the air could be contaminated and harmful to our health. Stay vigilant and protect yourself,” Mr. Abugre cautioned.
He gave this advice during an appearance on Tingmalogo Sanga on Thursday, February 13, 2025, ahead of Valentine’s Day celebrations. However, he stressed that food safety should be a daily concern, not just during special occasions.
Mr. Abugre also urged food vendors and those in the hospitality industry to uphold high hygiene standards and provide good customer service. He noted that maintaining cleanliness not only ensures food safety but also helps attract and retain customers.
“A clean and welcoming environment encourages customers to return. No one wants to eat in a place that looks untidy or unhygienic. Let’s prioritize both food safety and customer satisfaction,” he added.
While many people celebrate Valentine’s Day with special meals and outings, Mr. Abugre emphasized that food safety should always be a priority, regardless of the occasion.
