The Member of Parliament for Talensi, Daniel Mahama, has been accused by aggrieved youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of attempting to bribe party members to support the nomination of John Millim as District Chief Executive (DCE).
The youth claim Mr. Mahama is involved in a last-minute swap of the nomination and is allegedly paying money to NDC members who oppose the nominee to persuade them to back down.
At a press conference, the aggrieved youth also alleged that Mr. Mahama has been projecting John Millim as his preferred candidate, refusing to listen to dissenting opinions.
According to Charles King Luu, who addressed the press on behalf of the aggrieved youth on Thursday, “We are reliably informed that the MP, Hon. Daniel D. Mahama, is part of the last-minute swap of nominees that resulted in John Millim’s nomination. It is also alleged that the MP is paying money to NDC members who are aggrieved over this nomination to back down. Again, he portrays John Millim as his best man for the DCE position and, for that matter, he would not listen to any dissenting opinions or suggestions.”
The group believes the MP’s actions suggest he is likely to lose the next NDC primaries, making him a potential one-term MP. They therefore expect him to focus on improving himself and addressing pressing developmental issues in the Talensi Constituency.
“Already, Hon. Daniel D. Mahama talks and behaves in a manner that gives a strong public impression that he is going to lose the next NDC primaries and, for that matter, will be a one-term MP. So we expect him to rather focus his strength on improving himself and addressing unemployment, security, road networks, and other developmental concerns in the Talensi Constituency.”
The aggrieved NDC members also cited John Millim’s alleged close ties with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a reason for rejecting his nomination. They warned that his appointment could affect the party’s fortunes in the 2028 general elections. The group therefore called on President John Mahama to immediately withdraw the nominee’s appointment, citing concerns about party unity and local support.
However, Michael Nangena, the Talensi Constituency Communications Officer, responding on A1 Radio’s News Link, dismissed the allegations, describing them as baseless and lacking substance.
According to Mr. Nangena, all the claims made at the press conference by Mr. Luu reflect his personal views and interests. He emphasized that Mr. Luu had no evidence to support his statements and insisted that the youth of Talensi are not involved in the matter.
