Aggrieved members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Talensi Constituency have reiterated their dissatisfaction with the nomination of John Millim Naabwomya as District Chief Executive (DCE), while distancing themselves from a recent incident involving the burning of the party’s office.
Speaking on A1 Radio, the convenor, Charles Luu, clarified that their objective in organizing a press conference on Friday, April 11, 2025, was to make their grievances known to the party’s leadership. While he noted that the party has not yet responded to their concerns, he believes the group has fulfilled its responsibility by speaking out.
“If the party is not responding to us or not doing anything, we don’t think that is an issue because our objective was to make ourselves heard. We have done our part, so if the party is not doing anything, well, we have done our part.”
Addressing the issue of the fire that destroyed the NDC party office, he dismissed any claims linking the group to the incident. He described the fire as unfortunate and stressed that it should not be associated with their protest. According to him, the group’s intention has never been to damage the party or create internal chaos, and he rejected the notion that any member of the group would resort to such actions.
“The burning of the party office is unfortunate. I would call that a coincidence. I don’t see why aggrieved NDC youth would go and burn down the office. We won’t do that.
Our intention is not to cause destruction to ourselves and our party, so somebody burning this office in the name of protesting against John Millim is unfortunate. Nobody would do that,” he said.
Mr. Luu also raised concerns about the nominee’s political leanings, alleging that he has shown affiliations with the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He claimed that although they were aware of these affiliations, they remained silent during the campaign season to protect the party’s chances in the elections. However, the convenor admitted that some of the issues raised were allegations but maintained that the group firmly believes in what was presented.
“We believe what has been alleged,” he stated.
