Private organization to construct football pitch in Bolga East – DCE

The Bolgatanga East District may soon get its first properly constructed football pitch, thanks to a private organization that is yet to be named.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East show today, Wednesday, May 14, 2025, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Jacob Abugre Aka-eri, said the organization—through the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area—has renewed its interest in the project and construction may begin in the coming days.

The DCE also took a swipe at the 2024 parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Matthew Amoah, who had promised to construct an astro turf for the people of Bolgatanga East ahead of the elections. That promise, however, did not materialize.

According to Mr. Aka-eri, the project by Mr. Amoah appears to have been abandoned entirely.

“Leading up to the 2024 election, issues of sports and recreation came up. Some candidates promised to build an astro turf for the people of Bolga East at a certain date, but up to now, the place is lying there. There is no astro turf,” he said.

“I am following up on the project to see what can be done about it. Yesterday, an organization we contacted during the election period—through the MP to build the Zuarungu Social Centre—visited the site, and I believe by next month they will return to begin construction,” he added.

The DCE clarified that the construction of the sports facility would be undertaken by the private organization, “which wants to support.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Aka-eri also revealed that the Assembly has reached out to GETFund to support the construction of teachers’ bungalows in parts of the district.

Meanwhile, since its creation, the Bolgatanga East District has not had its own office for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

This has meant that residents seeking NHIA services have had to travel to nearby districts—such as the Bolgatanga Municipality—to access registration and renewal services.

However, this is about to change, according to the recently confirmed District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bolgatanga East, Jacob Abugre Aka-eri. He made the announcement during an interview with A1 Radio’s Mark Smith on Tuesday, May 14, 2025.
