The Assembly Member for Bolga-Soe and Yipala in the Bolgatanga Municipality, Dr. Justice Aduko, has urged young people—especially final-year Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates—to see themselves as agents of change capable of transforming their communities through education.

Speaking during a donation ceremony he organized and funded to support candidates and recognize hardworking teachers, Dr. Aduko emphasized the power of education in driving community development. He announced a GH¢1,000.00 cash reward for any student who scores an aggregate between 6 and 15 in the 2025 BECE.

“Our community will only rise when our children excel in their education,” he stated. “I want every young person here to know that they matter and that they can be the reason Bolga-Soe and Yipala are recognized among developed communities.”

Dr. Aduko also used the platform to raise concerns about a rising wave of teenage pregnancies and substance abuse in the area.

“Data available to me shows that within the first quarter of 2025 alone, nearly 22 girls in our communities have become pregnant. This is deeply worrying,” he noted.

He called on parents to become more involved in their children’s lives and education to combat these growing social issues.

“The future of these children rests not only in the hands of teachers but in the daily guidance of their parents,” he added.

Some parents present at the gathering expressed gratitude to Dr. Aduko and pledged to be more proactive in supporting their children’s development.

“We are now more aware of our responsibility,” one parent shared. “We will not let our children fall victim to early pregnancy or drug abuse.”

Teachers who were recognized during the event also committed to redoubling their efforts to improve educational outcomes.

One awardee, Paulga Anaba Yakubu of Yipaala Junior High School, remarked, “With motivation like this from our Assembly Member, we are encouraged to go the extra mile for our students.”

Another awardee, Madam Jambeidu Lizeta of Saint Joseph Junior High School, added, “Teaching is my calling. Seeing my students excel puts a smile on my face, and I will continue to give them my best.”

Dr. Aduko’s initiative highlights the importance of community-driven leadership in addressing both educational and social challenges and presents a hopeful vision for the youth of Bolga-Soe and Yipala.
