Nabdam GES Director appeals for support to save kindergarten pupils from dilapidated structures

The Nabdam District Director of Education, Ms. Mary Magdalene Wompakeah, has made an emotional appeal to key stakeholders—particularly the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area and development partners—to urgently intervene in improving the learning conditions of pupils at the Pelungu and Kongo Kindergartens.

According to Ms. Wompakeah, the infrastructure at these schools, especially at Kongo Kindergarten (KG), is in a deplorable state, posing a serious risk to the lives and safety of nearly 100 young learners. She described the situation as dire, especially with the rainy season fast approaching, warning that continued inaction could lead to disaster.

“Our children at Kongo KG are learning in extremely unsafe structures. If we do not act now, especially with the rains setting in, we may be faced with tragic consequences,” she cautioned.

She made the passionate plea during a brief ceremony at which the MP for Nabdam, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, donated essential learning materials to final-year pupils preparing for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

While commending the MP for his consistent support, Ms. Wompakeah emphasized that addressing the deteriorating classroom conditions must now take precedence.

“We need classrooms that give these pupils hope, not fear,” she stressed.

The donation of materials is expected to ease the pressure on BECE candidates, but Ms. Wompakeah urged stakeholders to look beyond exam support and consider the long-term educational needs of children in the Nabdam District.

Education, she noted, is the foundation of development, and children cannot thrive in unsafe and demoralizing environments.

She called on NGOs, benevolent individuals, and corporate institutions to partner with the Ghana Education Service to improve school infrastructure across the district and ensure quality, equitable education for all.

  1. Good morning to all friends and colleagues out there.
Follow the post by the media on the issue of the plea by the district director of education, Nabdam, on schools infrastructure, I hereby want to correct the information captured by the media.
The DDE Mary-Magdalene Wompakeah, mentioned that, Pelungo kg was unsafe for learners to sit in. She pleaded that, the assembly and MP should act urgently since the rainy season is setting in.
On the part if Kongo KG, she said the school has been renovated by assembly under the SOCO project but still under locked and keyed, allowing children to be squeezed in one class. This she said, was not proper.

A picture that was taken in 2023 is being used for a publication on 3rd June, 2025?
