MTN Ghana has taken a significant step toward empowering local entrepreneurs and boosting digital skills in the Upper East Region by providing specialized social media marketing training for small business owners. The initiative, under the 2025 Yellow Care campaign, aims to equip 35 young entrepreneurs in Bolgatanga with the skills needed to grow their businesses online.

The two-day training program, held in the regional capital, was designed to help entrepreneurs leverage social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to expand their market reach, increase customer engagement, and improve brand visibility.

According to Martin Kumobah, MTN Ghana’s Upper East Regional Team Lead, the initiative is part of the company’s broader commitment to economic empowerment, poverty alleviation, and entrepreneurship development in local communities.

“So for this year, in Upper East specifically, we decided to focus on social media training. We have 35 young entrepreneurs who have already established small businesses. We started yesterday, and it’s a two-day session. We brought in a resource person to offer hands-on training on how to use social media—Facebook, Instagram, TikTok—to market small businesses and reach new customers beyond their immediate surroundings,” he stated.

The selected participants come from various fields, including hairdressing, tailoring, basket weaving, smock weaving, and artisan crafts. These individuals were chosen based on their digital literacy and potential to apply the training for business growth.

Mr. Kumobah also noted that MTN Ghana will monitor and evaluate the impact of the training to assess its effectiveness in promoting digital entrepreneurship. He expressed hope that the skills acquired would help the entrepreneurs market their products globally, increase revenue, and build stronger customer relationships.

Participants who spoke to the media expressed excitement about the training. They said the program provided them with valuable skills that will transform the way they promote and manage their businesses online.

“This training has taught me how to use Facebook and Instagram for marketing. I can now design posts and engage customers better,” one of the participants shared.

This social media training forms part of MTN Ghana’s broader digital inclusion strategy, aimed at enabling youth and small business owners in underserved regions to become competitive in the digital economy.
