Keep Fit groups in the Upper East Regional Capital, Bolgatanga on October 29 came together at an event to fraternize and promote peace ahead of the upcoming general elections.

The event which was put together by the Regional Sports Authority saw eight keep fit groups including Veterans, Ever Young, Alafia, Rockland, Obey the Referee, Craft Village, Maagani and Sugri Ansonga battle each other in a peace gala.

Speaking before the start of the event, Regional Sports Director, Daniel Sarpei mentioned that the competition was geared towards providing a platform for the youth to fraternize with each other and hence promote peace.

He noted that the upper east region has been noted as an election flash point but said that the event was organized to send the message across and to disabuse the minds of people who think people in the region were violent.

“You know that we have been marked as an election flash point but today we are here to fraternize and make the day a better one. We are here to disabuse the minds of people that we are violent people. As you can see, there are different people with different political affiliation so since you are able to be friends here that means you are ready to ensure that we enjoy peace before, during and after the election.”

The event which is the first of its kind took place at the mobile park.
