Gariba: No scientific proof Bawumia caused NPP’s 2024 defeat or can’t lead in 2028

A regional secretary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region, Daniel Kwame Gariba, has questioned the logic behind claims that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia led the NPP to lose the 2024 general elections and therefore cannot lead the party to victory in 2028.

According to him, such claims lack any scientific or logical basis and only serve to divide the party.

Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Gariba argued that democracy operates on levels of acceptance and that electoral outcomes cannot be attributed to a single individual.

“If you contested before and lost, and now say the one who beat you is incompetent, what grounds do you have?” he asked. “Democracy works by levels of acceptance. If you couldn’t even win half of your party’s support, how can you claim that Ghanaians at large will vote for you? In any case, do those making the claims have any scientific proof?”

He cautioned NPP members, particularly those aspiring to lead the party, to focus on unity and nation-building rather than internal blame games. “We must move away from this Bawumia fixation,” he said. “It is the blame game and counteraccusations that weaken us as a party. Instead, we should focus on ideas and solutions that can transform Ghana.”

Mr. Gariba further stressed that disunity within the party could undermine its chances of reclaiming power in 2028. “If we break that house that we want to occupy, at the end of the day, there will not be any house for us to run into,” he cautioned. “Aspirants must tackle internal contests decently so that after the elections, we can still come back together to work and win power.”

He also addressed the motives behind a recent press conference held by former District Chief Executives (DCEs), saying it was not to attack anyone but to clarify misconceptions. “Politics is such that if they throw mud at you and you don’t clean it, it sticks,” he said. “Some internal detractors wanted us not to respond so they could use it against us later. But I believe lies should never thrive over truth.”

Mr. Gariba concluded by urging party members to trust in divine guidance, stating, “Whatever happens, it is God who decides. If He gave power to John Mahama, we can only wish him well. But when the time comes, if God wills, the NPP will return. However, a house in disarray cannot lead 32 million Ghanaians.”
