Mahama’s leadership favours selected few – NPP’s Peter Ayinbisa alleges

The Upper East Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Ayinbisa, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of pursuing policies and decisions that benefited only a select group of people rather than the general Ghanaian population.

Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Ayinbisa argued that the president’s leadership lacked inclusivity and a genuine national vision, describing his style of governance as self-serving and limited in focus.

“President John Mahama came not to help support the growth of every Ghanaian, but a very selected few,” he alleged.

Mr. Ayinbisa referenced the ongoing parliamentary debate over the vetting of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, the newly nominated Chief Justice, following the removal of Former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, as an example of what he termed the administration’s disregard for due process and inclusiveness.

He questioned the urgency with which Parliament appears to be handling the vetting process despite pending legal challenges to Justice Torkornoo’s removal.

“For instance, on the very day the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, was removed, everything was done in a rush and hurry,” he said. “The Minority is simply asking that Parliament allow the cases in court regarding the former Chief Justice to be settled. Why the rush, knowing that she has already sent the case to the ECOWAS Court, which is still pending? There are also appeals at the Supreme Court, so why can’t Parliament wait for those matters to be concluded?”

Mr. Ayinbisa’s comments come in the wake of a motion filed by the Minority in Parliament, urging Speaker Alban Bagbin to suspend the vetting process until all legal matters concerning Justice Torkornoo’s removal are fully resolved.

The Minority contends that continuing with the vetting while the issue remains before the courts could violate due process, prejudice ongoing proceedings, and undermine public confidence in both the judiciary and Parliament’s oversight role.
