The District Chief Executive for Talensi District in the upper east region, Edward Awunore on Tuesday received massive affirmation by members of the assembly following his re-nomination as the District Chief Executive of the area.

The assembly members were drawn from the 22 electoral areas in the district and 10 appointed members. After the voting by 31 present members, the DCE had 29 members voting yes to retain him and 2 voting no representing 93.5% and 6.5% respectively.

Mr. Awunore was first appointed as DCE of Talensi District in October 2013 on the back of the creation of the Nabdam district out of the then Talensi-Nabdam district. He has since his appointment been very instrumental in driving the course of development in the area in various sectors and described by political commentators as one of the best ‘youthful’ DCE’s in the region.

Speaking after he was affirmed the DCE for the second time, Edward Awunore used the opportunity to render an unqualified apology to those he might have wronged during the past years of his tenure saying “I want to assure you that as human as I am, if throughout my period as a district chief executive of this assembly working with you, at any point in time my action or inaction affected you negatively, I want to stand before the high table of honorable men and women of this house to render an unqualified apology”.

Although there maybe administrative challenges at the assembly, Mr. Awunore said he was elated by the massive support and love shown him for another term of office.  He further assured the members of the house that he will operate an open door administration for collective development of the area but reminded the house that any time he goes wrong, members of the house should not hesitate to notify him and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the district develops.

A member of the Council of State, Reverend Bishop Dr. Jacob Kofi Ayeebo cautioned the DCE to listen to all the assembly members and work with them to reach the development goals of the assembly.

The presiding member of the assembly, Benedict B Yindoog also appealed to the regional minister, Albert Abongo to help the district in the area of electricity, water and the road network adding that people in the district are crying for attention to these areas.

Speaking on behalf of the paramount chief of the Talensi traditional area Naab Kugbilsong Nalebktang, chief of the Baare traditional area Naab Nyaakora Mantii thanked the assembly members for the show of maturity and love for the DCE by massively affirming him to retain him. He also urged them to desist from attitudes that could mare the strong ties that have been built by affirming the president’s nominee.

In attendance were the upper east regional minister, Albert Abongo, the MP for Talensi constituency B.T. Baba, DCE for Nabdam Vivian Anafo and the DCE for Pusiga Alhassan Bugbila, John Akolgo Tia, former MP for Talensi and current Ambassador to Cuba.
