The Municipal Health Promotion Officer for the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region, Francisca Adongo, is urging residents to drink plenty of water as part of ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM).

Ms. Adongo explained that staying hydrated is essential for maintaining strong immunity, particularly during the dry season when CSM cases are more common.

“Staying hydrated is key to maintaining good health, especially during outbreaks like CSM,” she said.

She noted that drinking adequate water helps the body flush out toxins, boosts the immune system and supports the body’s natural defenses against infection. Ms. Adongo warned that dehydration can weaken the body’s ability to fight disease, increasing vulnerability to infections such as meningitis.

She encouraged residents — especially children, the elderly and people who work long hours under the sun — to make a habit of drinking clean and safe water regularly.

Adongo shared the advice during an interview on Bolga FM’s Tingmaalgo Sanga programme on Thursday, November 6, 2025. She highlighted the need for public awareness, early detection and prompt medical treatment to reduce complications associated with meningitis.

She reaffirmed the Municipal Health Directorate’s commitment to intensifying community education and preventive campaigns to help reduce CSM cases in the Bolgatanga area.
