President John Dramani Mahama, has said the Farmer Service Centers if completed will make Ghana a Net Exporter of food because farmers will be able to improve their farming practices in order to increase their productivity.

He made this remark after he cut sod for the construction of a Farmer Service Center in Gaani in the Kasena Nankana West District Tuesday, during his four-day campaign tour of the Upper East Region.

The Service Center which is the second among fifty to be piloted in every district of the country will according to the President train and retrain farmers in modern agricultural practice in order to increase in productivity.

Apart from training farmers on the best farm practices, the Service Center will be equipped with modern farming implements including ploughs, ten tractors, harvesters which will be provided to farmers who are members of the Center in order to facilitate work on their farms.

The President noted that “It is no longer about how extensive your farm is but how intensive your farm is, so I am particularly enthused about the training and retraining bit which will make farmers make more money out of their small farms because they will be taught how to farm properly,” urging farmers to register to enjoy the benefits of the Center.

President John Dramani Mahama noted that the Center when established will kick start the green revolution in Ghana because farmers will be introduced to modern agricultural practices and put an end to slash and burn which destroys the vegetative cover of the land.

In Naaga, the President disclosed that the Road connecting Naaga to Navrongo have been given on contract and will be constructed in the shortest possible time to aid easy movement and ease transportation of food crops in the area.

“I am coming to inform you that the Navrongo-Naaga road has been awarded on contract and in order that it will go fast, we have divided it into two and awarded it to two different contractors and they are On Top Construction and Jebbs Construction Limited and so very soon they will come on site to start work and very soon they will finish.”
