Political Science Lecturer at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr. Amoako Baah has said he is not surprised at the accusations and counter accusations as to what caused the defeat of President John Dramani Mahama because the party was led by ‘noise makers’.

The aftermath of this year’s election has seen supporters and officials of the governing National Democratic Congress pointing fingers and blaming each other for their defeat to the New Patriotic Party.

But speaking to A1radio’s Albert Azongo on the Day Break Upper East show, Dr. Amoako Baah said he is not shocked at the turn of events in the National Democratic Congress.

According to him, the leadership of the party gave its supporters false hope of winning the just ended election and for that reason, they find it difficult to fathom why they lost the election.

He said “Even two hours to the time the President conceded defeat, they were on radio encouraging their supporters that they were winning when in actual sense they knew they were not winning. So they were shocked that the NDC lost with such a colossal margin. The NDC has engaged in propaganda for so long that they have come to believe their own lies even when the figures have gone against them. The supporters were shocked and some of the leaders were shocked because they never thought they will lose.”

On why the NDC lost, Dr. Amoako Baah noted that the NDC governed Ghana with Propaganda without accepting the reality that things were not as rosy as they had painted for Ghanaians to believe.

“If you are running a country on propaganda eventually it catches up with you and that is what happened to the NDC. It is white and they say it is black. Dumsor is here and they say it is gone, unemployment is rife and they say the government is creating jobs, the economy is bad and you say the economy is doing well and that is what caused their downfall because if you keep telling lies it catches up with you.”

He noted that although the National Democratic Congress had statesmen who are experienced in governance “the party was led by noise makers like Asiedu Nketia, Kofi Adams, and Koku Anyidoho and the statesmen were relegated to the background.”

Dr. Amoako Baah alleged that the NDC placed people in the NPP to foment problems and that worked in some way but what the NDC failed at was the fact that they never figured they could lose hence the shock and pointing of fingers at each other.

He mentioned that in the future, the country is going to witness a lot of divisions in the National Democratic Congress adding that it will be bad for the NDC to field John Dramani Mahama in 2020 elections.

Dr. Amoako Baah warned the New Patriotic Party not to be complacent and eschew any form of arrogance and corruption or risk been booted out by Ghanaians.
