Tongraan announces intention to set up football club

Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tongraan Kugbilsong Nalebegtang has hinted of plans to set up a football club called Talensi United in order to convert the raw football talents in the area into professionals.

He disclosed this at the climax of this year’s Tongraan’s Daa/Boaraam Festival Gala at the Tongo Catholic Church football field on Christmas Day.

According to him, the games put together was a preparatory grounds for the formation of a Football club for the area which will see talents in the area brought together to form a team.

The club, according to the Chief will be expected to work hard in order to qualify for the country’s elite league to make the people of the Talensi Traditional area proud.

On the gala, he mentioned that they intend to make it an annual competition which he believes will help them harness football talents in the area and also bring the people together.

In all, sixteen teams took part in the gala which was part of the activities to mark this year’s Daa Festival but Tongonayiri Eleven emerged winners after they beat Baare eleven on penalties in the final match of the competition.

The winners, Tongonayiri went home with a set of Jersey, a trophy, and some assorted drinks whereas the first runners up, Baare Eleven went home with a set of jersey, football and some assorted drinks whiles second runners up, Zoo/Zoobeog Eleven went home with a football and some assorted drinks.
