The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga has begun renovation works on a classroom block at the Bolgatanga Experimental Primary School, following reports by A1 Radio two years ago highlighting the deteriorating condition of the facility.

The school, established in 1953, received a six-unit classroom block, an ICT center, an office, and a staff common room under the GETFund in 2006. However, the block has since fallen into disrepair, with peeling walls, deteriorating floors, and severe roof leakages that disrupt teaching and learning, especially during the rainy season.

In 2025, a retired police officer, ACP Patrick Akolbilla, supported the school by donating 20 bags of cement, a trip of sand, and GHS 1,000 to help floor one of the classrooms.

The headteacher of the school, Mercy Yamtot, expressed appreciation after learning of the ongoing renovation works.

“I did not expect this to happen this way. I am full of joy and grateful to the Member of Parliament for coming in at the right time to salvage the situation,” she said.

She added that the intervention would help ease concerns about the upcoming rainy season.

“I was worried about what would happen to us during the rains. This has come as a sigh of relief. God bless him for supporting the school,” she said.

The Member of Parliament visited the school to inspect the ongoing works and assured the headteacher of his commitment to ensuring the project is completed ahead of the third term of the 2025/2026 academic year.
