The District Chief Executive for Bawku West, James Ayamwego, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving sanitation in the district, describing environmental cleanliness as a key public health priority.

Speaking on A1 Radio after a recent cleanup exercise in Zebilla, he said sanitation remains one of the major focus areas of the district assembly due to its direct impact on the health and wellbeing of residents.

“When it comes to sanitation, it is one of my key priorities because we think that the health of the people ought to be paramount. And by doing so, we are prioritizing sanitation issues to address public health concerns.”

According to him, the latest exercise recorded encouraging participation, particularly in electoral areas located along the highway, including the Zebilla Central and Saka electoral areas.

Despite the positive turnout, he expressed concern that some residents still do not fully appreciate the purpose of the National Sanitation Day initiative. He explained that the campaign is intended to encourage citizens to take personal responsibility for cleanliness in their homes and communities.

“This recent one, I think it was better just that people are not getting the concept of the National Sanitation Day. It is a call for everybody to be responsible to take our personal cleanliness and then environmental care seriously. But some people still have difficulty in understanding that simple thing.”

“We think that we are doing our best,” Mr Ayamwego said, stating that the assembly will continue to intensify public education and sanitation activities to promote environmental care and reduce public health risks within the district.

He also commended residents who participated in the exercise and urged the public to support ongoing efforts aimed at maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment.
