The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspected robbers believed to be behind a series of highway and street robbery attacks within the Bolgatanga Metropolis and along the Bolgatanga-Walewale Highway.
The suspects, identified as Moses Akungoe and Jacob Akugri, were arrested on May 9, 2026, in Kumasi by a team from the CID Headquarters Operations Unit following weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance operations in Bolgatanga and Walewale.
According to preliminary police investigations, the suspects were part of a robbery gang allegedly armed with two AK-47 rifles and pistols and operating across the Upper East and North East Regions.
Police said the gang is suspected of having robbed several victims of cash, mobile phones, and motorbikes on streets and highways, with some of the incidents reportedly leading to deaths.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted involvement in a number of robbery activities and identified the alleged gang leader as Issaka, alongside another accomplice identified only as Araafat. Both suspects are currently on the run.
The Police said efforts are underway to arrest the remaining members of the gang, including individuals suspected of supplying weapons used in the robbery operations.
The two suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, while authorities continue efforts to retrieve stolen items and identify other accomplices linked to the criminal activities.
