Former member of the Peoples National Convention, Dr. Somtim Tobiga, has said it is early days yet to criticize the President on the number of Ministers he has appointed and the number of new Ministries he has created.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed 36 Ministers and is expected to release another batch of Ministerial list by close of the week.

However, his appointment has raised questions as to the need for some of the new Ministries he has created including Monitoring and Evaluation, Railway Development and Wate and Sanitation.

But speaking to A1Radio’s Emmanuel Aboagye on Daybreak Upper East, the country should rather wait for the President to go through all the appointment processes including vetting and start judging the Ministers by how they perform their duties.

To him, Power and function are vested in the President and he has the duty and the obligation to do his calculation and see what combination he can do to achieve a certain result.

“We have to go back to power and function. Power and function are vested in the President and he has the duty and obligation to calculate and see what combination he can do to achieve a certain result.”

He asked Ghanaians to bear in mind that the President has the power to make any combination to achieve certain results and therefore complaining about his work at this crucial moment will deprive him of carrying out an effective government.

Dr. Somtim, however, mentioned that Ghanaians can start criticizing after the President’s appointees start work and they do not affect the change they voted for.

“If there is a jam, if they cannot perform well then the President should suffer the consequences because he did not do the best combination but until then Ghanaians should exercise patience.”
